Caravan Towing Sydney to Brisbane

Towing a caravan from Sydney to Brisbane is a long but rewarding journey, one that I’ve done countless times. It takes around 10 to 12 hours, depending on traffic, weather, and the weight of the caravan I’m hauling. While some might find the drive tiring, I genuinely enjoy it. There’s something about the open road, the changing scenery, and the challenge of towing that makes each trip unique.

I always take the coastal route along the Pacific Highway rather than heading inland. It’s not just the quickest way—it’s also the most scenic. The road is well-maintained, with long stretches of dual carriageway, making it safer and smoother for towing. Plus, driving along the coast means I get to pass through some of Australia’s most beautiful landscapes, from rolling green hills to ocean views that make the trip even more enjoyable.

Leaving Sydney early in the morning is key. Beating the peak-hour traffic means I can get a good run before the roads start getting busy. The first part of the trip, heading north past the Central Coast and Newcastle, is usually straightforward. There are a few steep sections, but my LandCruiser 200 Series handles them with ease. I always check my mirrors regularly, making sure I’m not holding up traffic, and I use rest stops strategically to let faster vehicles pass when needed.

One of my favourite parts of the drive is the stretch between Port Macquarie and Coffs Harbour. The road winds through lush forests, with glimpses of the Pacific Ocean appearing now and then. If I have time, I’ll stop at one of the many roadside service stations for a quick coffee and a break. Towing for long hours requires concentration, so I always make sure to stay well-rested and alert.

Coffs Harbour is a good halfway point. If I’m not in a rush, I’ll sometimes grab lunch here. There’s a great mix of small cafés and rest stops where I can stretch my legs and double-check the caravan’s connections. Even though I do a full check before every trip, I like to inspect the hitch, tyres, and lights at least once during the journey.

After Coffs, the road flattens out a bit, making for an easier drive. The stretch from Ballina to the Queensland border is particularly nice, especially with the new bypass roads cutting down travel time. The moment I cross into Queensland at Tweed Heads, I know I’m in the home stretch. From here, it’s just a couple more hours to Brisbane, passing the Gold Coast skyline along the way.

Arriving in Brisbane after a long drive is always satisfying. There’s a sense of accomplishment in completing another successful tow, knowing that the caravan is safely delivered.
