Why me
Interstate Townsville to Brisbane Towing โ 24/7 Caravan Towing Services
Iโve been professionally towing caravans from Townsville to Brisbane for over ten years, and every trip still holds something new. While the route is familiar, no two journeys are ever quite the same. The key to a smooth, stress-free tow is all in the preparationโmeticulous route planning, checking weather conditions, and ensuring the caravan is in top shape before hitting the road.
I prefer to start early, well before sunrise. The air is cooler, traffic is lighter, and I can cover a reasonable distance before the day’s heat sets in. I do a final walk-around of the caravan, ensuring the hitch is secure, the tyres are at the correct pressure, and all lights and brakes are working as they should. A minor issue at the start can turn into a significant problem down the road, so I never skip these checks.
Heading south out of Townsville, the Bruce Highway stretches ahead, winding through sugar cane fields and grazing country. One of the first things Iโm always cautious of is wildlifeโkangaroos in the early morning, cattle wandering near unfenced sections, and the occasional wild goat darting across the road. Having a UHF radio is crucial in these areas. Truckies ahead will often call out road hazards, slow-moving farm vehicles, or roadworks, helping me stay alert and adjust my speed when needed.
My first planned stop is usually Bowen. Itโs a good spot to refuel, stretch the legs, and do another quick inspection of the caravan. Even though everything was checked before departure, a long drive can shift thingsโsafety chains can loosen, a tyre can start showing signs of wear, or something inside the caravan might have moved around. Catching these small things early prevents big headaches later on.
From Bowen, I always enjoy the drive towards Mackay. The scenery changes, the road has long open stretches, and itโs an opportunity to settle into a good rhythm. I keep my speed steady and avoid unnecessary brakingโsmooth driving is key to stabilizing the caravan and ensuring a stress-free tow.
I usually stop for a proper meal in Mackay. There are plenty of good spots to grab a bite, and I always opt for something light that wonโt leave me feeling sluggishโa chicken wrap or salad does the trick. Itโs also a great point to reassess my driving schedule. If I’m having a good time, Iโll push on towards Rockhampton for the night. If there have been delays, I might stay somewhere closer, like Sarina.
I always choose a motel with plenty of parking when I stay overnight. The last thing I want after a long day on the road is to struggle with a tight parking space or worry about security. I double-check everything before bedโhitch locked, caravan stabilised, and nothing left unsecured.
The second day starts just as early. From Rockhampton, itโs a long but straightforward drive towards Gympie, passing through areas where fatigue can become a real risk. Long, straight roads can lull drivers into a false sense of security, so I try to stop every few hours. A five-minute break to walk around and have a coffee makes a big difference.
This section of the drive also requires extra vigilance for road conditions. The Bruce Highway, while improved over the years, can still present unexpected challengesโpotholes after heavy rain, roadworks slowing things down, or sudden traffic buildups. Staying aware and keeping my UHF on helps me avoid unnecessary surprises.
When I reach Gympie, Iโm on high alert for increased traffic. The highway gets busier from here, and other drivers can be unpredictable. I maintain my lane discipline, stick to safe following distances, and watch my mirrors, especially when merging traffic appears out of nowhere.
Rolling into Brisbane always gives me a sense of accomplishment. Another caravan was delivered safely, and another trip was completed without incident. Itโs a job I take pride inโnot just because itโs what I do for a living, but because I know how important it is for people relying on me. Whether itโs a family moving their home on wheels, a new owner receiving their dream caravan, or someone needing a relocation, I treat every tow with the same care.
After ten years of doing this run, I still find satisfaction in every journey. Something about the roadโthe ever-changing conditions, the problem-solving, the independenceโmakes it all worthwhile. And as long as people need their caravans moved safely, Iโll be here, doing what I do best.
